Bonding and Computers
Used properly by families, computers can be a wonderful thing. In addition to all the technological and educational uses, properly utilized, parents can use the computer to help them with bonding with their children.
For those parents needing an extra edge, a mother or father may be able to ease the tension felt between themselves and a teen child after quality time spent playing or learning to play the latest 3D game. Look here for strategy or action games.
Another type of game that can be very effective, are the many real life Simulation type games such as the Sims or Roller Coaster Tycoon. The simulation games fit very well because they allow and encourage saving of the game at different intervals, and pick up where you left off at a later time.
This is a perfect lead-in for a parent to once again refresh the recent session of quality time spent. Depending on the age and aptitude of the child, some of the more intensive and sophisticated board games would be a good match.
Dads, here’s your perfect chance to score big with your son. Play some of the top Sports games with him. You won’t have to let him win, although he may anyway.
For those with younger children, you may want to take a look at some of the more traditional family games. There are many packages and software bundles that will give you a variety of titles to choose and play with your children.
Another idea might be to have a dedicated game night each week. The entire family could get together around the computer and play one of the more classic family or traditional board games such as Monopoly, Life to name a few.
Of course if your children are much younger, your bonding time with them on the computer will usually take on a much more educational role. Whether they are toddlers or just starting out in school, you may use titles like Reader Rabbit, Reading Blaster, Math Blaster or the popular Jump Start series. Quite possibly they may be at an age where they need a bit more stimulation and require more advanced titles and higher skill levels of the math and science titles.
Be sure not to overlook the purely entertaining titles such as the many animated movies and of course the full line of Disney titles.
When you stop to consider how much children and young people are drawn to computers, whether you are taking advantage of the quality time spent playing a game with your child, or you help a child research a school project on the internet, families can use computers to open up a whole new dialog and understanding of one another.
